5 April 2016 - Steel import statistics released for February 2016
Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) amount to 120 773 tonnes during February 2016.
According to data released by the South African Revenue Service, imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) amount to 120 773 tonnes during February 2016, an increase of 30,1% compared with 92 803 tonnes imported during January 2016 and a decrease of 33,6% compared with 181 865 tonnes imported during February 2015.
Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) during the first two months of 2016 amount to 213 576 tonnes, a decrease of 32,2% compared with 314 956 tonnes of primary carbon and alloy steel products imported during the corresponding period of 2015.
Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) during the twelve months March 2015 to February 2016 amount to 1 297 707 tonnes, an increase of 15,0% compared with 1 128 690 tonnes of primary carbon and alloy steel products imported during the corresponding twelve month period.

9 March 2016 - Crude steel production statistics released for 2015
Crude steel production amounts to an estimated 6,398 million tonnes during 2015.
According to data released by the members of SAISI, crude steel production amounts to an estimated 6,398 million tonnes during 2015, a decrease of 0,2% compared with an estimated 6,412 million tonnes produced during 2014.
Of the estimated 6,398 million tonnes crude steel produced during 2015, it is estimated that 2,491 million tonnes, or 39%, were produced via the electric furnace route and 3,908 million tonnes, or 61%, were produced via the oxygen furnace route.

Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) amount to 124 378 tonnes during December 2015.
According to data released by the South African Revenue Service, imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) amount to 124 378 tonnes during December 2015, an increase of 40,6% compared with 88 475 tonnes imported during November 2015 and an increase of 18,2% compared with 105 191 tonnes imported during December 2014.
Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) during the twelve months January 2015 to December 2015 amount to 1 399 087 tonnes, an increase of 35,0% compared with 1 036 414 tonnes of primary carbon and alloy steel products imported during the corresponding twelve month period.

3 March 2016 - Steel import statistics released for January 2016
Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) amount to 92 803 tonnes during January 2016.
According to data released by the South African Revenue Service, imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) amount to 92 803 tonnes during January 2016, a decrease of 25,4% compared with 124 378 tonnes imported during December 2015 and a decrease of 30,3% compared with 133 091 tonnes imported during January 2015.
Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) during the twelve months February 2015 to January 2016 amount to 1 358 799 tonnes, an increase of 26,1% compared with 1 077 409 tonnes of primary carbon and alloy steel products imported during the corresponding twelve month period.

7 January 2016 - Steel import statistics released for November 2015
Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) amount to 88 475 tonnes during November 2015.
According to data released by the South African Revenue Service, imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) amount to 88 475 tonnes during November 2015, a decrease of 18,9% compared with 109 165 tonnes imported during October 2015 and an increase of 14,9% compared with 76 984 tonnes imported during November 2014.
Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) during the first eleven months of 2015 amount to 1 274 709 tonnes, an increase of 36,9% compared with 931 223 tonnes of primary carbon and alloy steel products imported during the corresponding period of 2014.
Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) during the twelve months December 2014 to November 2015 amount to 1 379 900 tonnes, an increase of 39,5% compared with 989 401 tonnes of primary carbon and alloy steel products imported during the corresponding twelve month period.
