How do I register as a COSM claimant?

Do I have to pay a registration fee?
No, COSM claimant registration is free of charge.

Do I have to renew my COSM registration as a claimant?
No, you will remain a registered COSM claimant until you inform SAISI to terminate your COSM claimant registration.

When can we start claiming?
After date of registration as a claimant.

Within 6 months or 184 days after date of export.

Claims are treated on a first-in-first-out basis.

What payment method is used to pay claims?
Claims are paid by electronic transfer into the claimant's bank account.

What financial assistance is available on exports?
The current rebate is R173 per ton and is payable on the net steel content of the finished product.

Which countries do not qualify for exports?
All overland Africa exports, sea and/or air freight exports to Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi do not qualify.

Who can claim from COSM?
COSM recognises the actual exporter as the claimant except in instances where the right to claim is ceded.

Does SAISI pay concessions?
No, SAISI does not pay the concessions. The relevant Cosm member pays the concession. However, concessions from ArcelorMittal South Africa Ltd must be submitted with the relevant COSM claim.

You have to complete the application process with ArcelorMittal South Africa Ltd to qualify for a concession.

Who is the South African Iron and Steel Institute (SAISI)?
The South African Iron and Steel Institute (SAISI) is a non-profit, pro-competition and non-governmental representative organisation serving the collective interests of the primary steel industry in South Africa.
SAISI was established in 1962 as the South African Rolled Steel Producers Co-ordinating Council. In 1995 the name was changed to the South African Iron and Steel Institute.
