According to data released by the members of SAISI, crude steel production amounts to 830 688 tonnes during June 2006 compared with 818 016 tonnes during May 2006 and 752 664 tonnes during June 2005.
Of the 830 688 tonnes crude steel produced during June 2006, 384 475 tonnes were produced via the electric furnace route and 446 213 tonnes were produced via the oxygen furnace route.
